Teaching
Teaching students is an integral part of my work as a sociologist, and my research has had a substantial impact on what and how I teach. I believe that understanding the principles of sociology allows students to deepen their understanding of the world around them, and to reconsider how they evaluate themselves, and others in the process. By adopting an intersectional framework and triangulated methodologies, I introduce my students to analytic tools they can use to make valuable social contributions, far beyond our classroom.
I regard students as active participants in their learning, not as passive recipients of knowledge. It is my goal to help students develop their sociological understandings and to consider how they can apply this knowledge in their everyday lives. I consider the classroom to be a site for co-creation and social contributions and understand my role as an educator as one of responsibility, support, and inspiration.
